Country Guide

A politically stable and peaceful country, Tanzania is largely rural, reflected in it’s rich natural beauty – from famous national parks such as the Serengeti National Park to coastal and beach resorts in and around Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania is home to the highest peak in continental Africa – Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). All the activities that you would expect to be on offer within this region are here. Various operators in the area offer organised treks, forest walks, mountain climbs and excursions towards the mountain’s three volcanic centres. The region also has some of the largest fresh water lakes on the continent, including Lake Victoria, the second largest in the world.

Other attractions within Tanzania include the diverse range of islands. The clear blue seas and corals around the islands of Zanzibar and Mafia represent the ideal place to go snorkelling, fishing or partake in a number of varied watersports, or even just to relax in the paradise like surroundings.

The country’s various towns offer their own individual and unique charms. For those interested in safari touring, the town of Arusha is an ideal – and popular – place to start. Situated within the picturesque surroundings of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru, the town is a great base camp for further excursions to the many national parks located in the area.

Dar es Salaam, current capital and largest city in Tanzania, is a lively coastal spot with many modern and luxury activity options and luxury stays on the unspoiled Indian Ocean coastline. Attractions include watersports and the many beach resorts along its harbour – said to be one of the largest natural harbours in the world! Highlights of any stay in Dar es Salaam must include the various sea-based activities, including dolphin sight seeing and coral diving.

Entry requirements

A Tanzanian visa needs to be obtained prior to travel, which can be obtained from the Tanzania High Commission in London. A single entry tourist visa is valid for up to 90 days.
