Mountain Bike Champion To Take Gap Year
25th October 2011
Mountain bike champion, Manon Carpenter, was last month crowned UCI Junior World Champion and is ranked in the world top 10 elite riders.
She has now decided to take a gap year before starting university next year to give her time to train and compete in the World Championships. "I want to concentrate on downhill racing for at least one year - maybe more depending on how it goes, perhaps delay university even further. Having more time off university will give me a chance to become more independent and a bit more mature," she said.
The championships will see Manon competing all over the world, starting in South Africa, before moving on to other countries including Canada, USA and Norway.
