More graduates turn to gap years

Increasing numbers of graduates are discovering gap years as a way to do something worthwhile and avoid unemployment when they have finished their studies. A survey by the Daily Mail found that "nearly 20,000 of last year’s graduates – one in ten – were unemployed six months after leaving university", and as such, they are finding other ways to enhance their careers and employability.
The survey indicated an average of 45 applications per role for positions with the country's top 100 graduate employers following a 15 percent surge in graduate job applications as universities produced record numbers of graduates. Keen to do something worthwhile following their studies, many graduates are discovering the advantages of a gap experience - which gives them the opportunity to work abroad and gain valuable skills and life experience.
