The Inter Rail Pass

How much of Europe can you see in a month? Nothing beats the Inter Rail Pass for getting there on the cheap and seeing as much as possible in a very short time! This pass effectively gives you the freedom of Europe - You can go where you want, when you want – you can even catch some sleep on some overnight trains between cities!

The Inter-Rail pass gives you unlimited rail travel on the national rail networks within one or more travel zones. See the map below for details on the zones available.

The Zones

The Inter-Rail pass is valid for travel within the following zones:

  • A. Republic of Ireland, Great Britain & Northern Ireland*
  • B. Norway, Sweden, Finland
  • C. Germany, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland
  • D. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary Poland, Slovakia
  • E. France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg
  • F. Spain, Portugal, Morocco
  • G. Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Turkey, Ferry between Italy and Greece operated by ATTICA (Bluestar Ferries & SuperFast Ferries)
  • H. Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Macedonia

*Please note travel is not permitted within your home country.

The Details

There are three types of pass available:

  • All zone pass permitting unlimited travel within a one month period
  • Two zone pass permitting unlimited travel within two chosen zones valid for 22 days
  • One zone pass permitting unlimited travel within that zone valid for 16 days

Conditions

You are able to purchase a ticket up to a maximum of three months prior to leaving. A valid passport is needed, which you should keep with you at all times. Additional services such as seat reservation fees, couchette and sleeper fees are chargeable extras. Supplements and/or special fares are payable on the following services:

Please note that, if you are travelling to Germany, the Inter-Rail pass in not accepted on the German Railways 'Metropolitan' services between Hamburg-Essen and Dusseldorf-Cologne.

Holders of a Zone E or All Zone pass are eligible to purchase discounted rail and sea ticket connecting London to Calais via Dover. Prices start at just £19 single. Further details of this offer can be seen when you purchase your ticket.
