Gap Years prove more popular than ever

STA Travel is expecting a 150% rise in gap year bookings this year as school leavers choose culture over coursework to enhance their CVs. University applications are up by 100,000 this year and with 6,000 less places than last year, up to 200,000 students may miss out on their places - despite having the grades they require. As a result, many students are avoiding disappointment and instead choosing to expand their horizons by taking a Gap Year. John Constable, Group Managing Director at STA Travel says: “In the early part of 2010, STA Travel has seen a 50% year on year rise to the gap year section of the website and a significant increase in the number of gap related enquiries in-store."
