Gap Year = Snap Year?

A recent survey by insurance company LV has suggested that the traditional gap year may be replaced by a "Snap Year" as the average year out trip now lasts an average of only 5 weeks. Of those planning extended breaks, just 8% intend to be away for four months or more, with the average trip lasting five weeks. As many as 27% are planning to visit low-cost destinations such as Thailand and India, while 10% intend to work while they are away. Almost a third plan to "sofa surf" by staying with friends or family abroad for part of their trip and 11% intend to travel by train or coach rather than fly. The poll of 1,035 adults showed Australia as the most popular destination for gap year travellers.
