Gap Year student to cycle the UK
6 Jul 2010
Adam Blackwood, an 18-year old student from Cwmbran, South Wales, is set to spend his gap year on an epic cycle tour that will take him to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. He has been training several times per week, as he prepares to spend the next 12 months on a 10-stage tour of the United Kingdom, covering more than 600 miles.
Currently taking A-levels in biology, chemistry and mathematics, the student is hoping to raise £5,000 for Cancer Research UK - a charity he is passionate about. "Most people have a friend or family member who has had cancer" he said; "maybe in the future the work of charities like Cancer Research can do something to stop that". He also added that he hopes to one day work in biomedical science.
The cyclist will start his tour in County Durham in August and finish in Wiltshire in 12 months' time.
