Gap Year Bookings On The Increase
1st November 2011
Gap year companies are reporting a sharp increase in the number people taking a gap year.
Although the number of students taking a gap year this year was expected to fall due to the increase in university fees next year, organisations are reporting a 28% increase in bookings for "snap years" and a 35% rise in gap years.
Dr Peter Stowe, of Projects Abroad , said: "Our young volunteers who were disappointed in not finding a place at university are seeing it as a blessing in disguise. They have realised volunteering in the third world is an excellent way to step off the treadmill of academia and broaden their outlook, life skills and general education, while enriching the lives of others."
